今天我們的話題是「put」。
我們在交流中，很多時候腦袋里面的中文剛到嘴邊，卻又不知道怎麼翻譯怎麼說，這時候經常會很尷尬，但是千萬不要脫口而出說：How should I say...bla bla....。外國人一般不會這麼說，今天來教你一個地道的說法【 How should I put it？】。
這里的put并不是「放」的意思，這個詞可以被延伸成「信息的安置」（把一件事講給別人能聽懂），因此這話應該這樣解釋：我應該怎麼去安置我的信息呢？其實就是說：我該怎麼說呢？

哎，該怎麼說呢，我覺得很難說我們到底同不同意他的方案。

put it there？ 放哪里？
如果你第一次聽到這個詞匯，一定會以為是「放那里」的意思，其實本意并不是這樣，而是職場中一個重要的禮儀：
put it there 同意、可以，一言為定（可進一步意譯為「握手」）
-So， do we have a deal？ 因此，答應了哦？
-Sure， put it there. 當然！我們來握手慶祝吧！
put 10 years on 看起來老了10歲
我們都知道put on 是「穿上」的意思，把十年都穿在了身上，也就是表示老了10歲啊
Lily‘s dress， the red one she wore at the annual meeting， really puts 10 years on her. Lily在年會穿的那條紅裙子讓她看起來老了10歲！
You look young.這句話是指你看起來年輕實際上很老，You don‘t look your age. 才是不符合年齡的年輕，是你看起來很年輕是意思。
put to sleep 弄睡，一般是用安眠藥鎮定劑等，有安樂死的意思
put to bed 哄人入睡
I‘m going to take the dog down to the vet’s and have her put to sleep. 我要把小狗帶到獸醫那里，讓醫生給它安樂死。
The house settled down after the children were put to bed. 孩子們被送上床睡覺后，屋子安靜下來了。
辦公室常用語 put to sleep則指太無聊了，讓人昏昏入睡
The boring meeting just put me to sleep.
