日常生活中，我們不管是請別人幫忙，還是約對方見面，一般都會先問他人是否方便？但如果對方是外國朋友，該怎麼說呢？

很多同學對于「方便」的第一反應都是「convenient」，那詢問他人是否方便能不能直接說「Are you convenient」？答案是 不能。

convenient的主語一般為物。多形容某個時間，某個地點，某種方式很方便。

I‘ll call back at a more convenient time.

在方便的時候我會回電話的。

The house is very convenient for several schools.

這座房子離幾所學校很近。

It is very convenient to pay by credit card.

用信用卡付款非常方便。

那如果要問對方是否方便，該怎麼說呢？可以把主語換成物：

Would this evening be convenient for you？

今天晚上你方便嗎？

Will it be convenient for you to come this afternoon？

你今天下午來方便嗎？

或者直接問對方「有沒有空」？

（Have） You got a second/sec/minute？

地道口語，使用頻率非常高。

Are you free？

Do you have a minute/second？

minute在英語中有「分鐘；片刻」的意思，所以「a minute」既可以在特定的語境下理解為「一分鐘」，也可以理解為「（籠統的）一段時間」。

Do you have a minute？ I‘ve got something to tell you.

你有空嗎？我有一些事要給你說。

另外，助動詞Do也可以省略，直接說成You have a minute？

Mr Hughes？ You have a minute？ I would like to introduce our company structure to you first.

休斯先生嗎？您有時間嗎？我想先給您介紹下我們公司的結構。

Are you available？

大家都知道available的意思是「可利用的，可獲得的，可找到的」，但它也可以表示「（人）有空，有時間」。

釋義： Someone who is available is not busy and is therefore free to talk to you or to do a particular task. 有空的，有時間的

Mr. Leach is on holiday and was not available for comment.

利奇先生在休假，沒空作評論。

I‘m available next Thursday if you want to meet then.

如果你想碰頭的話，我下星期四有空。

Can you spare some time？

spare time是「業余時間」的意思，其中spare是當作形容詞使用。當然，spare作動詞來講有「勻出，抽出」的意思，所以可以使用Can you spare some time？問別人「你有空嗎？」

Can you spare some time to go shopping with me？

你有空和我一起去購物嗎？

When do you have time off？

have time off是個固定搭配，意思是「休息，有空，放假」，所以When do you have time off？就是問別人「你什麼時候有時間？」，是不是很容易記住呢？

When do you have time off？ I will give a lecture in your university next week and I hope you can be part of it.

你啥時候有空？我下周在你們學校有個講座，我希望你能出席。
