現在很多人的生活都離不開電腦和手機，

每天盯著屏幕工作、娛樂，

視力也很容易變差，到處都是戴眼鏡的人，

那麼，你知道該如何用英語來表達「眼鏡度數」嗎？

很多同學的第一反應是不是「glasses degree」？

但這個表達是錯誤的！

不是所有的「度數」都能用「degree」！

「degree」可以表示「數量；程度；水平」，它還有「度，度數」的意思。

但是它尤指溫度或角度的度量單位，通常在數字后用符號°來表示。

Water boils at 212° Fahrenheit and 100° Celsius/Centigrade.

水在212華氏度，即100攝氏度沸騰。

「degree」有兩個比較常用的表達，寫作和口語中都可以用到。

by degrees 逐漸，逐步

The economy seems to be improving by degrees.

經濟似乎在逐步好轉。

to a/some degree 部分地；在某種程度上

To some degree I think that‘s right， but there are other factors which affect the situation.

從某種程度上來講我認為那是對的，但是影響這種局面的還有其他因素。

如果是說眼睛近視的度數，我們可以說「dioptre」[daɪˈɑːptər]，

它的意思是「屈光度，折光度」

近視度數 = Negative Diopters

遠視度數 = Positive Diopters

而近視的醫學專業術語是Myopia，但日常生活中，大家會說： nearsighted / shortsighted

dioptre： a unit of measurement of the power of a lens， used for measuring a person‘s eyesight

A typical short-sighted person in Britain is -4.5 dioptres.

在英國，典型的近視眼是 -4.5屈光度。

Tom is nearsighted/shortsighted because he used to play games in darkness whole night long.

Tom近視是因為他經常在黑夜里玩一整晚游戲。

醫學英語中，近視是「myopia」[maɪˈoʊpiə]，英文釋義如下：

a condition in which someone cannot clearly see things that are far away

The influence of the glucagon agonist on myopia development was much more pronounced.

胰高血糖素激動劑對近視發展的影響更為明顯。

有時候，近視還會伴隨著散光，看東西會重影。

shortsighted/nearsighted 近視

這兩個詞都是「近視」，前者是英式英語，后者是美式英語。

As you get older， you may become shortsighted.

隨著年齡的增長，你可能變得近視。

He is so nearsighted that he can just see the things put before his eyes.

他的眼睛近視得厲害，放到眼底下才看得清。

astigmatism 散光，散視

This demonstrates a lack of significant astigmatism[əˈstɪɡmətɪzəm].

這表明沒有明顯的散光。

有些朋友可能不近視，反而有點遠視，遠視用英語該怎麼說呢？

hyperopia/long-sighted/far-sighted 遠視

Examples of refractive error are myopia， hyperopia， and astigmatism.

屈光不正的例子有近視、遠視和散光。

presbyopia 老花眼，老年遠視

One person‘s reading glasses for presbyopia[ˌprezbiˈoʊpiə] can be the same as another’s distance glasses.

一個人的老花眼眼鏡可能和另一個人的遠視眼鏡是一樣的。

如何詢問和回答「眼鏡度數」？

因為在國外，配眼鏡是一種醫學行為

所以問別人眼睛度數的時候，可以說：

What‘s your eyeglasses preion？（preion這里指「眼鏡度數」）

What is your eyesight？

How strong are your glasses？

而回答「我近視/遠視300度」，可以說：

I am nearsighted/farsighted with 3.0 diopters.

或者直接說：

3.0 diopters（300度）

「度數深淺」如何表達？

詢問度數深淺，其實是想問近視是否嚴重。

可以用： sightly / extremel輕微 /嚴重

I‘m extremely nearsighted，my eyesight is getting worse.

我近視很嚴重，視力越來越差。
