在很多人眼中，full 是」滿，充滿「等意思，此時通常指某個」容器」里面塞滿或充滿具體的東西，沒有剩余空間了，常用于搭配 full of sth 中，如 the basket is full of beans，意為」籃子裝滿了豆「，但是這不意味著 full of beans 都是這個意思。
在英語中，我們經常用介詞跟在形容詞后面，如 afraid of，famous for 或 bored with 等，但是什麼樣的介詞要跟什麼樣的形容詞卻沒有規律可言，只能在學習過程中記住這些固定搭配。在實際用法中，full 后面常接介詞 of。
現實中的 full 的用法遠不止某物充滿某物，它還有很多「抽象」的用法，主要有以下幾種：
一、full 指某人想或談太多的「滿」，例如：
I has been full of my interview for the manager‘s job recently.
最近我對經理職位的面試想太多。
二、full 指完整或詳盡的「滿」，例如：
A full refund is fully supported if there are any defects of the machine.
如果機器有任何缺陷，我們將全額退款。
三、full 指忙或活動有很多的「滿」，例如：
The teacher‘s work is too full to make time for hobbies.
老師的工作太忙，沒有業余愛好的時間。
因此「忙碌」常可以用習語 have your hands full 來形象地表示，例如：
There is small wonder that he has his hands full with a lot on his plate.
事情那麼多，難怪他忙得不可開交。
四、full 指豐滿或圓鼓鼓的「滿」，例如：
They specialize in clothes for women with a fuller figure.
他們專為體形較豐滿的女士做衣服。
五、full 指圓的「滿」，例如：
The moon will get fuller and fuller in coming days.
未來幾天月亮會越來越圓。
因此，滿月可以用 full moon 來表示。
六、full 指最大量或最高級的「滿」，例如：
The train picked up speed and drove through the tunnel at full speed.
火車加速，全速駛過隧道。
七、full 指肚子飽的「滿」，其實此時的 full 指的也是具體的滿，那就是肚子裝滿了食物，例如：
You can‘t run on a full stomach.
飽餐之后不能跑步。
八、full 指大量或許多的「滿」，例如：
I was full of admiration for her every time she received a bunch of flowers.
每次她收到一束花時，我都對她充滿欽佩。
物極必反，當一個人用自己把自己充滿，也就是 full of oneself 時，就是自滿的表現了，意為「自視甚高，只顧自己，自滿」等，例如：
He is very full of himself after being promoted.
升職后，他非常自視甚高。
由此可見，full of beans 可以指某物裝滿豆，主語通常是某個「容器」，然而當主語不是什麼「容器」時，它的意思就完全不一樣了，此時的 beans 也不是「豆」等意思。
Full of beans，還可以表示人精力充沛，相當于 have a lot of energy，例如：
We were young and full of beans.
我們年輕，精力旺盛。
Isobel is full of beans after she‘s back on her feet.
伊莎貝爾痊愈后，精神飽滿。
